By Dolly Singh.
They stand by the barbed wire
Spines of steel, firm resolves.
They are awake!
In body and mind, while
the complacent nation sleeps.
Soon the dawn will break
They will rest their arms,
And put their weary heads down.
And, the nation will be awake
Alas! Not rise.
For, the nation will slumber
On the debris
Of a dead constitution
Yes, they will sleep while the
Democracy lay asunder!
Some more, at the other end,
Walk briskly
Along the corridors of power
Starched whites
Belie the red
that runs in the arrogant veins
Eager to rule
Unmindful of the oath
That promised to serve
